Location: Alexandria, VA 22314
Onsite Requirements: 5 Days Onsite (Flexibility after 90 day probationary period, still an expectation for onsite)
We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to join a dynamic, hands-on team responsible for maintaining and optimizing both network and system infrastructure. This is a hybrid role, with 60% focus on network engineering and 40% on systems engineering. Ideal candidates should be comfortable working in a small, fast-paced environment, with the ability to wear multiple hats as needed. If you're passionate about technology, eager to grow, and enjoy taking on challenges, this is the role for you!
This position requires proactive communication skills, strong documentation habits, and a solid understanding of network routing, system administration, and security best practices. While the role leans more toward networking due to the nature of the environment, you will also be expected to contribute to systems engineering tasks, including server backups and system monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Engineering (60%):
- Manage and troubleshoot Cisco networking devices, including Meraki and SD-WAN solutions.
- Perform manual and automated routing, including ensuring proper VLAN configurations and IP address management.
- Conduct vulnerability scanning and apply patches to ensure network security and performance.
- Troubleshoot network performance issues using Cisco diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, SNMP, NetFlow).
- Collaborate with team members to isolate and resolve network issues such as misconfigurations or connectivity problems.
Systems Engineering (40%):
- Administer and monitor servers, ensuring system scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Regularly check server backups, data center infrastructure, and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
- Collaborate with other engineers to ensure system uptime and troubleshoot system-related issues.
- Document all systems processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps, making them accessible for end users in Office 365 and Azure Active Directory.
Technical Skills and Experience:
- Network:
- Proficiency in routing and switching with a strong understanding of Cisco’s portfolio (Catalyst, Nexus, ISR, ASR).
- Hands-on experience with Meraki and SD-WAN solutions.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, SNMP, and NetFlow.
- Understanding of network vulnerabilities and patch management practices.
- Systems:
- Experience with server administration, including backup verification and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with system monitoring, logging, and automation tools.
- Ability to work with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP (desired but not mandatory).
- Documentation and Communication:
- Excellent documentation skills for systems processes and network configurations.
- Ability to clearly communicate with team members and end users, ensuring clarity and ease of use for documented materials.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Industry Experience: While industry experience in a credit union is a plus, it's not required. We are looking for someone who thrives in a smaller environment, is adaptable, and can manage both network and system tasks.
- Personality: This role requires someone who is proactive, eager to learn, and open to seeking help when needed. Strong communication skills are a must, as you’ll be working closely with a small team and interacting with end users.
- Flexibility and Growth Mindset: This role is ideal for someone who is looking to expand their skill set and grow in both network and systems engineering.
